Being in this program has taken pressure off my shoulders.

I have been in Pathways for almost a year after being kicked out. I had no one in my family to turn to, but I knew someone that was already a client in Pathways and spoke very highly of the housing program she was in that also helped her out with getting an education. As the oldest daughter in a Latino household who is Queer, I really wanted to get a Bachelor’s degree but due to responsibilities like taking care of my younger sibling, working more than 20 hours a week while going to community college full-time, and my deteriorating mental health. I didn’t think I would be able to do it. I got so burnt out from overworking myself that I wasn’t sure if finishing my education was something I’d be able to do. But being in a program that provides financial support for school, my mental health, and supporting me in any other way I might need, I’ve been able to change my outlook on my academic future.

Being in this program has introduced me to supportive people like my mentor and has taken pressure off my shoulders. Since being in Pathways, I’ve gotten involved with another non-profit in Southeast LA and a part of their LGBTQ+ Youth Council and am currently in another LGBTQ+ Youth Leadership Committee at the Center OC. In the future, I hope to get involved at my new school, CSU Fullerton, that I will be attending in the fall like joining clubs, or building connections with professional staff, and being an active member in my community.
